There are national models of excellence in schools throughout the state, and it’s important that we recognize such success stories. In Spartanburg District 7, students in the Odyssey program for gifted and talented students recently won the national WordMasters Challenge. This rigorous program involves vocabulary development and verbal reasoning. Under the direction of teacher Susan Holcombe, the students beat out teams from 140 schools to prove that they were the nation’s best.
